Not Your Parents Religion
#142 An Interview with Adam, Our In-the Field Evangelist @ Cobbs Hill Park!
What if you could rewrite the commandments? Join us as we explore fascinating insights from Adam, one of our lead evangelists, who has been engaging people at Cobbs Hill Park with thought-provoking questions about faith, religion, and the teachings of Jesus. Adam recounts the diverse and heartfelt responses he received when asking about favorite commandments and what new commandments people would create. Surprisingly, many focused on Jesus's simple yet profound teachings of love. This quest for clarity and understanding reveals a deep, unspoken need for connection in today’s complex world.
In our conversation, Adam underscores the importance of standing firm on the authoritative word of God amidst ever-shifting moral landscapes. We dive into how the ever changing morals and values has muddied the waters of morality and integrity, creating societal confusion and division. Yet, the constant and timeless teachings of the Bible offer a steadfast foundation. Listen in as we explore these powerful discussions and reflect on the unwavering truth found in scripture, providing a beacon of hope and clarity in turbulent times.

We're sitting with Adam, one of our lead evangelists, who's been walking around Cobbs Hill Park with our questionnaire survey icebreaker form, asking people various questions about faith, religion, od, jesus, the whole nine. So Adam say hi, how you doing people and, adam, what has been some of your results that you've seen so far?
Adam:Well, I've been asking a few people two questions. You know like, out of the Ten Commandments, what is your favorite commandment? And then, if you could create a commandment, what would it be?
Pastor Robert Young:What kind of responses have you gotten from that?
Adam:You know, actually it's very interesting because if I ask them, you know what was your favorite commandment? And they all turn to. They didn't say the standard 1 through 10. They actually said that when Jesus said love God, the Father, and love others, that you love yourself. But the thing about the second question is, if they were to create a commandment, it was never based on power, because usually, you know, when we're asked something, it's like man, I want to change something. What they did is basically, it's an issue of the heart, of the mind.
Pastor Robert Young:Like what. What's some of the responses they want clarity.
Adam:They want clarity about you. now certain things that they lived family that's been passed on. They want answers to little questions that they never got certain things like that, Right, right, right.
Pastor Robert Young:You know, we actually had a call-in person to the podcast about a year or so ago that asked the question about where do you, where do you go when you die, and you know those kinds of things. So, uh, in the future, when you're out and talking to some people, if you think that cause some of the questions they may ask out there.
Pastor Robert Young:We may have already answered on the podcast so you can refer them back to the the actual podcast and, if possible, no-transcript things that's going on in our society right now. People have those questions. What other thoughts can you give us, give our listeners, about the questions that you've been asking people?
Adam:out there. You know, it's very simple. It's like there was a question in a conversation that I had with a wife and a husband and their child and very basic like it's the questions like you know where do I go when I die? But also it's like what do I depend on in Scripture? And they said that you know, it's all about love and stuff like that. But you know, if you really dig down, it's God never apologized for the word he gave.
Pastor Robert Young:Right.
Adam:And some of the answers are based on, you know, the authoritative word of God. You know, did God die for everyone?
Pastor Robert Young:Some of the questions are on the survey.
Adam:Right. So it's like, if you really stem down to it, it's like you know, if the Bible is the authoritative word of God, then you have to take the Bible for what it is. It's truly God's word, and if we cannot stand on that foundation when Jesus speaks and in Matthew, then it's an unstable ground and that can lead to a bunch of things that are not actually healthy for us to be as Christians.
Pastor Robert Young:You mean kind of like what our society is going through now Confusion, division. Well, part of that too is because there's no set standard in people's mind. But we know that the standard has already been given a long, long time ago. But people have ignored that standard and creating their own and sometimes, as we see, those standards change. Even the moral standards change, looks like from generation to generation. And this part is saying, well, no, we got to live this way. And the other part is saying, no, we got to live this way. And then there's a third one says, listen, we can both live these kinds of ways, but God already set the standard. Would you agree to that?
Adam:I would, I mean you took the words right out of my mouth. When it comes to integrity, morality when it comes to the ways of life, I think I mean, honestly speaking, if I may, political correctness has killed morality and integrity in life situations because it's a aftertaste in families' lives. They base their raising, their children on these ethics and it's like, but when they get older they can choose what they want to do.
Pastor Robert Young:Yes, yes.
Adam:But since the dawn of time, god has established a way of life. Since the dawn of time, god has established a way of life and it is the law. It's do not steal cheat. Have any gods before?
Pastor Robert Young:you Don't kill, don't kill. Yeah, don't covet your neighbor's wife.
Adam:And if you're from Rochester man, it's like seeing in the news. It's like my grandmother said one day she goes. You know what she goes? People act the way they act because they don't have a fear of God within them.
Pastor Robert Young:Amen, amen. Good stuff, good stuff. Let me go back to a point that you made earlier in what you're saying about children being raised with standards. Tomorrow's broadcast is specifically about and I think it's titled An Urgent Message to Christian Parents, and it's talking about those parents. You know the things that we're seeing out here parents leaving it up to chance for their children to discover the teachings of Jesus Christ versus them teaching them themselves and the damage that is causing. So our specific podcast is covering that issue tomorrow. So anything else you'd like to add to the podcast.
Pastor Robert Young:As far as what you're seeing, not only here in Cobbs Hill but in all some of your other travels and those of you that are listening, dam works with various ministries. He's walking the streets telling people about Jesus on a full-time basis, basically, and has a full-time job. He's doing the work of the Lord, and so he's got some insight that some of us may not have Any further information that you'd like our listeners to have, especially those who are still on the cusp. As to the interested in this Christianity thing, but they just haven't made up their final decision. You know, kind of like in the political sense, there's those undecided voters. We're not going to get into politics. I'm just saying, you know there's those undecided. Now, what's going to sway some? Besides the Holy Spirit, of course? Right, what is the information that we have to give that's going to sway those undecided for the lack of a better term, those undecided voters over Christianity?
Adam:Well, I say two things. That sums it up. First thing is a quote that a pastor of mine said a long time ago, and I stick with it If you do not stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
Pastor Robert Young:If you do not stand for something, you'll fall for anything. If you do not stand for something, you'll fall for anything. I got it Right.
Adam:So and then the second thing I would like to say is you know, if there's not a blueprint in a positive and a holy way, then I would say, check that conviction that you have in your heart. I mean, the Bible says that this world testifies of the glory of God. You know the trees growing a hundred feet and you know people that operate on just being. You know people in this world do not steal, kill all that good stuff. So. But I think it all stems down to that if we cannot stand on morality and integrity, especially based in scripture of the holy of the holy bible, then we're gonna fall for anything that comes our way and the funny thing about it is perspective changes all the time, yes, yet the word of God stays the same.
Pastor Robert Young:Stays the same. One of our most popular podcast episode is titled Is the Bible Still Relevant? And the premise behind that is we know that we live in modern times. We know that things are changing, some for the good, some not so good but is the Bible, the principles that the Bible laid out? Are they still applicable to this society? We go into details and say, of course they are. In fact they're just as much or more applicable now, when there is a lack of a standard per se, than they were when they were actually written.
Adam:I mean there's there's, there's no doubt, no doubt whatsoever. I mean it's if we, if we live our lives out here and we base it on something you know you're going to, you're going to start living and people are going to start seeing the fruit that you bear. You're going to start living and people are going to start seeing the fruit that you bear. They're going to start seeing your lifestyle and it's open to see. It all comes to light and I know we could say a lot of churchy-type phrases and quotes, but yeah, it's relevancy. The Bible is proven the most relevant book ever created and still stands that way.
Pastor Robert Young:And, by the way, it's still the number one bestseller too.
Adam:Most relevant book and there's not an end. For the 20 years that I've been walking with the Lord full heartedly, there is not one person that that has come to me and said that that the wisdom and knowledge that comes from the Bible is not, is not relative. Even, and I've talked- to Muslims and different people in different religions, and they all know that there's truth that comes from that book, amen, amen.
Pastor Robert Young:And I hate to keep harping on the podcast, but the podcast has reached some countries that are some Buddhist countries, and we have some listeners that are in Buddhistdhist-led countries right, that are listening to the podcast, and that simply tells us that there's people are hungry. Right to know more accurate, untainted, unfooled around with message about who god is, who Jesus christ is, all of those things. That's the foundation of this podcast. I t's called Not your Parents' Religion. Not to kick the religion of your parents, but we like to say this is the untainted and unfold around with version, Right.
Pastor Robert Young:And so, friends, I think we're going to cut off here.
