Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Welcome to this week's Gaddi Christian Meditation on Seeking God, part 3. Our scripture is coming from the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 4, verse 29. But first let's enter into worship by focusing on Psalms 100, verses 1-3, where it tells us to Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come before Him with joyful songs. Before him with joyful songs.
Pastor Robert Young:Take a moment to lift up your voice in praise and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father, who is worthy of all honor and glory.
Pastor Robert Young:Before we start to reflect on Deuteronomy 4.29, let's get a little bit more centered by closing our eyes and taking a few deep breaths as we invite the presence of God to fill us. Now take a few deep breaths in for a count of seven, hold the breath for a count of five and slowly exhale for a count of seven. Repeat this exercise.
Pastor Robert Young:Let's begin our muscle relaxation exercise by simply tensing each muscle group for three seconds and then releasing the muscle and, as always, don't hold your breath for this portion of the meditation. Let's begin with the calf muscles. Lightly tense the calves for a count of three, now release, moving upward to the hamstring, quads and the glutes. Lightly tense for three seconds, now release, Moving to the chest and the back area, Lightly tense for three seconds, now release. Lastly, moving to the arms and the shoulders, lightly tense these muscle groups for three seconds, now release.
Pastor Robert Young:Let's begin to focus on Deuteronomy, chapter 4, verse 29, where it says but if, from there, you seek the Lord your God, you will find him. If you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul, when you are in distress and all these things has happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him, for the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath. AoGto God's chosen people. The idea behind it runs throughout the scriptures and applies to all who have a growing relationship with God through his son, jesus Christ.
Pastor Robert Young:Take the next two minutes to reflect on the following questions. One, how am I seeking the Lord in my life right now? Two, in what ways can I deepen my relationship with God? Three do I trust in God's faithfulness and mercy during times of distress?
Pastor Robert Young:Imagine yourself in a peaceful garden surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers. Imagine the sun is shining overhead, filling the garden with warmth and light. As you bask in God's presence, feel a sense of peace and comfort wash over you.
Pastor Robert Young:Visualize yourself surrendering any worries or burdens you may be carrying. Feel God's love and mercy enveloping you, bringing you peace and reassurance.
Pastor Robert Young:Repeat the following affirmations now and for the next seven days:
Pastor Robert Young:I trust in God's plan for me.
Pastor Robert Young:I am guided and protected by God's love and mercy.
Pastor Robert Young:Take a few more deep breaths in and slowly bring yourself back to the present moment. Thank God for his presence and for the peace you have found in His Word. Carry this sense of peace and assurance with you throughout your day, knowing that God is always with you, ready to guide and support you. ,
