Welcome to this week's Guided Christian Meditation. I'm Pastor Robert Young and thank you for allowing me to be your guide on this journey. If you're new to Guided Christian Meditation, check out Episode 164, Getting Started in Guided Christian Meditation. Episode 164 explains the why and even the science of all of the stages of meditation that we practice.
Pastor Robert Young:Today's subject is about the healthy acknowledgement and expression of our emotions during times of trouble.
Pastor Robert Young:Today's meditation is entitled Expressing Our Emotions. Our scripture is from Psalms, chapter 13, verses 1 through 6.
Pastor Robert Young:According to Scripture, God requires us to be completely involved and free from wrongful acts in mind, body and spirit. Confession prepares the heart for being in the presence of Almighty God. Let's prepare our heart by repeating the prayer that King David prayed in Psalms 51, verses 1-4. Where it says "lovingkindness, according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions, wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity and cleanse me from my sin, for I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me, ever before me
Pastor Robert Young:..
Pastor Robert Young:Before we start to reflect on Psalms, chapter 13, verses 1 through 6, let's prepare our minds by closing our eyes and taking a deep breath as we invite the presence of God to fill us. Now take a deep breath. in for a count of seven. Hold the breath for a count of five and slowly exhale for a count glutes, lightly. Let's repeat Take a deep breath in for a count of seven. Hold the area, breath lightly for a count of five. Now slowly exhale for a count of seven. Now let's prepare our bodies with muscle relaxation exercises. We will simply
Pastor Robert Young:tense each muscle group for three seconds and then release the muscle. Remember, don't hold your breath for this portion of the meditation. Let's begin with"shout the calf muscles Lightly tense the calf muscles for a count of three, now release. Moving upward to the hamstrings,
Pastor Robert Young:quads and glutes Lightly tense for three seconds, now release. Moving to the abdominals, chest and back area Lightly tense for three seconds, and shoulders, lightly tense these muscle groups for three seconds, Now release. Now we can begin to enter into worship
Pastor Robert Young:of our Heavenly Father by focusing on Psalms 100, verses 1 through 3, where it tells us to shout for joy to the Lord. All the earth. Worship the O Lord with gladness, come before him with joyful songs. Take a moment to lift up your voice in praise and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father, who is worthy of all honor and glory. Repeat Psalms 8, verse 9, which says Repeat Psalms 8, verse 9, which says O, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. Now that we have prepared our minds, our bodies and our spirits, let's begin to examine Psalms chapter 13, verses 1 through 6 will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from? How long must I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy exalt
Pastor Robert Young:himself.
Pastor Robert Young:and triumph over me? Consider and answer me, o Lord, my God, give light to my eyes or I will sleep the sleep of death. And my enemy will say I have overcome him. And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken. And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken. But I have trusted and relied on and been confident in your loving, kindness and faithfulness. My heart shall rejoice and delight in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord because he has dealt bountifully with me.
Pastor Robert Young:In this passage we see King reflect in deep sorrow, frustration and even despair about all the trouble that is happening in his life. He didn't deny stuff or ignore his feelings. He even questioned the Almighty After acknowledging his emotions, expressing his emotions. Notice what happened in verse 5. He remembers God's faithfulness in his life. David begins to tell God that he will praise him even without the immediate deliverance of David's troubles.
Pastor Robert Young:may not be as profound as David's were at this time in his life. Lord However, our troubles affect us on an emotional level as well. It may seem as though God is plea. But, like King Lord David, begin to remember all the times that God was good to you, despite our failings and shortcomings.
Pastor Robert Young:It's okay to feel those emotions. God gave us emotions and he cares about our feelings. Ask God to help you to bring those emotions under control. To bring those emotions under
Pastor Robert Young:control and remember, no matter how we feel, god is still faithful to deliver us from our enemies, our troubles and even ourselves. Let's take three minutes to really Reflect on the words of this chapter. .
Pastor Robert Young:Thank you Thank you Repeat the following affirmation, now and for the next seven days Thank you, lord, for understanding when I feel and express my emotions to you. Thank you for always being faithful. Thank you for always being faithful. Again, thank you, lord, for understanding when I feel and express my emotions to you. Thank you for always being faithful.
